In addition to the mainstream solo repertoire for trumpet, Paul has explored and performed superb gems such as Jonathan Harvey's exotic work for trumpet and live electronics Other Presences, Luciano Berio's iconic Sequenza X for trumpet and piano resonance, Toru Takemitsu's Paths - In Memoriam Witold Lutoslawski and Gerald Barry's hauntingly beautiful Trumpeter His commissions include Cecilia McDowall's Seraphim for solo trumpet, strings and percussion and Night Trumpeter for trumpet and piano from the same composer and Anna Segal's Double Trumpet Concerto. Recital work includes compositions by Arthur Honegger, Bohuslav Martinů, Paul Hindemith, Jean Francaix and many of the French school of composers such as Pierre Gabaye, Jean-Michel Damase, André Jolivet and Henri Busser. These performances invariably include his own arrangements for trumpet and piano of works by Moritz Moszkowski, Charles Bizet, Maurice Ravel and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakoff. His discography as a soloist is wide and varied and includes Joie de Vivre, an album devoted to French music and Divertissement featuring popular arrangements by Paul, both recorded with Juliet Edwards (piano). With orchestra, his recordings include works by Joseph Haydn, Johann Nepomuk Hummel, George Frederic Handel and Cecilia McDowall.
